Faux-Finishing

A catch-all term for decorative painting techniques. Sponging, rag-rolling and verdigris are some of the more popular faux finishes, but elaborate techniques such as wood-graining and marbleizing also are catching on.

Faux finish is a painting technique using special brushes or every day materials such as paper, plastic, sponges or rags. Specific techniques used by Betty's Interior Paint Designs include ragging, sponging, dragging, stippling, frottage, and marbling. Faux finishes can be used on almost any surface, from floors to ceilings, and on furniture, mantels, frames, and other objects.

Faux Finishes come in all kinds Some look like natural products, stone, plaster, etc. Some are fantasy finishes dreamed up by the artist or home owner. They can be as dramatic or as soft as you would like, often the room dictates the type of finish.
